Farouk al-Baz may be the most famous of all expatriate Egyptian scientists, a longtime stalwart of the US' NASA (in at least one old
Star Trek there's a shuttlecraft named al-Baz), and his brother Osama was long Egypt's greatest diplomatic
eminence grise (called "Egypt's Kissinger" way back when Kissinger was
our Kissinger). Farouk al-Baz has told
Al-Masry al-Youm he wants to rally Egyptian intellectuals to nominate Egypt's youth for a collective award of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Farouk al-Baz is 73. I find this encouraging for some reason.
