Senior Brotherhood figures had warned for several days that Ashour did not represent the Brotherhood since they boycotted the vote and that if he took his seat he would only be representing himself. Ashour insisted that he won fairly, shares the Brotherhood's views, and denies that he was elected through irregularities. When he took his seat in the new Parliament, however, the Brotherhood moved against him.
