Egypt's MB Expels its One MP

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood has moved to formally expel the only MB candidate to win a seat in the Parliamentary elections, Magdy Ashour. Ashour was reportedly pressured by the government to stay in the race to lend credibility to the elections, despite the decision of the Muslim Brotherhood to boycott the runoff round of the elections.

Senior Brotherhood figures had warned for several days that Ashour did not represent the Brotherhood since they boycotted the vote and that if he took his seat he would only be representing himself. Ashour insisted that he won fairly, shares the Brotherhood's views, and denies that he was elected through irregularities. When he took his seat in the new Parliament, however, the Brotherhood moved against him.
