AUC's Substitute Cairo Book Fair

One of the casualties of the Egyptian revolution was the Cairo Annual Book Fair in January. The American University in Cairo Press recently sponsored a substitute fair held (where else?) in Midan al-Tahrir. The BBC offers an encouraging report.

Publishing in the Arab world has notoriously lagged far behind other countries, not least because of censorship; if the Arab spring leads to a new literary springtime, that would be truly encouraging.
